The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning early this morning due to predicted dangerous fire weather conditions including gusty winds, low humidity, and low fuel moisture increasing the likelihood of wildfires in the area.
At 14:41, units responded for a large brush fire in the Marriottsville area in the 3-4 box. Engine 31 and Brush 38 were dispatched to the 1000 block of Henryton Road for a report of smoke in the area. The caller advised that there was heavy smoke coming from the wooded area between the end of Howard Lodge Drive and Henryton Road. Upon arrival Engine 31 found a slow moving fire covering approximately 2 to 3 acres and requested additional resources, bringing units from surrounding stations to the scene. Units were split into East and West divisions on Henryton Road and Howard Lodge Drive and worked throughout the afternoon and evening to contain the fire. The fire was under control at 18:26 and units continued to mop up hot spots in the area. Units cleared at 22:17.
