Late this evening units responded for a fire in the 3-24 box. At 23:37 Engine 31 and Brush 38 were alerted for a brush fire in the 13300 block of Hunt Ridge. Soon after, the call was upgraded after the caller stated that a shed was now on fire about 100 feet from the home. Upon arrival, Chief 3A located a small fire to the rear of a shed, caused by improper disposal of ashes from the fireplace. There was very minor extension to the shed and Engine 31 made quick work of the blaze. Chief 3A held the command and units cleared at 00:18.
We remind everyone to always dispose of ashes and coals properly:
-If possible, allow ashes and coals to cool in the area where you had the fire for several days. These devices are designed to contain their heat safely.
-When it is time to dispose of the ashes, transfer them to a metal container and wet them down.
-Keep the metal container outside your home and away from any combustibles until the refuse is hauled away.
-Do not place any other combustibles in the metal container.
-Do not use a combustible container.
