Station 3 and surrounding companies responded this morning for a motor vehicle accident on I-70. At 08:59, units were alerted to respond to Eastbound I-70 near Route 32 for a two vehicle MVC. Upon arrival units found a box truck in the median strip and a sedan in the roadway. A priority 1 patient in the sedan required extrication which was handled by Tower 3 and Engine 131. Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 3 was requested to transport the patient to Shock Trauma, but upon transferring patient care to Paramedics 35 and 135 the patient was declared deceased on the scene. The Maryland State Police is investigating the accident but it appears that the box truck in the median was broken down but still partially in the traveled portion of the eastbound lanes of I-70 when the sedan rear ended it.
