In 1989 the Junior Fire Department was reorganized as the Cadet Firefighter program. Membership was open to anyone 12 to 16 years old and they continued with Fire and EMS training and fundraising. Between 1989 and 1995 thirty of the local youth participated as cadet members of the department. In late 2015, John Logan, a firefighter at West Friendship, revived the cadet program and recruited additional advisors to assist with activities, planning, and communications. The cadet program once again relaunched in January 2016 with 12 original members. Bi-weekly meetings were held in which the cadets were trained in foundational firefighting and EMS skills, marching, and self discipline.
