| Firefighters from WFVFD joined with crews from Gamber & Community Fire Company, Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department, Winfield Community VFD, Westminster Fire Department, Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company, and Baltimore County stations to battle a working house fire in Sykesville Saturday evening.
Engine 31 and Tanker 3 were alerted for the reported house fire on Route 32 at Pine Knob Road in the 13-12 box at 17:14, and were on the road within seconds. Engine 124 and Utility 12 from Sykesville arrived within minutes and declared a working fire which automatically dispatched a Rapid Intervention Team.
The fire started in a shed behind the two story frame dwelling and then extended to the rear of the house and into the attic. The shed and its contents were completely destroyed.
Upon Engine 31's arrival, its crew was initially assigned Rapid Intervention Team duties. As such, 31's crew gathered tools required for RIT, streched a handline to Side C, threw several ladders to sides A and C, ventilated windows, and performed a quick 360 of the residence and advised command of visible fire.
31's crew was then assigned to interior operations where they performed overhaul duties and checked for fire extension.
Since crews from Gamber had an adequate water supply from nearby hydrants, Tanker 3's water was not needed and the 2 man crew was assigned to Safety and Accountability.
Units from 3 cleared at 20:00. |
