It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carroll Roles, President and Life Member. Carroll passed away unexpectedly yesterday following a medical emergency. Son of James J. Roles and Mae Roles, Carroll was a lifelong public servant, joining the WFVFD in 1974 as a Firefighter and serving for many years as a Howard County Police Officer and subsequently a Howard County Sheriff's Deputy. Carroll was just elected President of WFVFD and took over in January of this year, after already having served as Vice President and President previously. Carroll was actively involved in the WFVFD Auxiliary as President and coordinating the use of Rehab 1 and our Community Room. This is an enormous loss to the WFVFD and Howard County.
He is survived by wife Marthe Roles (WFVFD member), his children David Carroll Roles (former WFVFD member) and Maxwell Wright, his daughter-in-law Cassie Roles, wife of David Carroll Roles, and his beloved grandchildren Alison Marie Roles and Aurora Roles.

Friends may pay their respects at Slack Funeral Home, 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043, on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Slack Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 3, at 10 a.m., with interment at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mt View Road, Marriottsville, MD 21104 following the funeral service.
Repast will take place at the WFVFD, 12535 Old Frederick Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 immediately following the graveside service.

Please keep the Roles family in your thoughts as we mourn this great loss.
