WFVFD responded early this morning for a motor vehicle collision on I-70 in Ellicott City. At 02:26, Engine 31 and Paramedic 35 were alerted for the rescue with unknown injuries on I-70 eastbound near the Route 40 split. The assignment was soon upgraded to a rescue with entrapment as additional callers provided more information. Upon arrival units located a three vehicle collision involving two tractor trailers and a sedan. The sedan evidently was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-70 when it was struck by two tractor trailers and came to rest in the median.
Units quickly began extrication efforts for the single occupant in the sedan, who was subsequently pronounced a priority 4. The two truck drivers were transported to Howard County General Hospital. Units cleared the scene at 03:28. I-70 remained closed until approximately 08:30 as the Maryland State Police Crash Team conducted its investigation.
