Rescue with Fire

Members from West Friendship and surrounding companies responded tonight for the rescue assignment on Route 32. At 20:51 units were alerted for a collision involving entrapment and fire on Route 32 near Burntwoods Road. Upon arrival Chief 3 located a two vehicle head on collision with one of the vehicles on fire and two trapped. Fortunately bystanders were able to remove one patient from the vehicle that was on fire prior to fire department arrival. Tower 3 quickly began extrication while Engine 31 and Tanker 3 worked to extinguish the fire and attend to the patients with Paramedics 35, 45, 56, and 135. A total of four patients were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, three by land and one via Maryland State Police Trooper 2.
Chief 3 had the command and Route 32 remained closed until 01:58 while the Howard County Police investigated the collision. Units cleared at 23:29.
