Units responded to several motor vehicle accidents in the aftermath of the snowstorm. On Tuesday afternoon at 15:45, the station was alerted for a rescue with possible entrapment on Route 32. The caller advised there was an overturned vehicle on Route 32 at Burntwoods Road with the occupants possibly trapped. Units arrived on the scene to find one occupant who had self extricated, and who Paramedic 36 transported to Howard County General Hospital priority 3. Chief 3A held the Route 32 command with Company 3 units.
Then on Wednesday morning at 10:11, units were dispatched to Route 32 at Old Frederick Road, just outside the fire station, for a reported collision with one subject trapped and not alert. Engine 31 arrived to find two vehicles involved and began extrication. The patient was removed via the undamaged side of vehicle which was on top of a snow bank and was transported to Shock Trauma via Maryland State Police Trooper 3 priority 1. Two other patients were transported to Howard County General Hospital priority 3 by Paramedic 85.
While the roads may be passable, we remind everyone to continue to drive with caution! Melting snow is freezing overnight and large piles of snow remain at many intersections, reducing visibility.
