WFVFD responded this evening for the report of a motor vehicle accident on I-70. At 20:01, Station 3 was alerted for the reported Jeep flipped over on I-70 westbound near the weigh station. Upon arrival, Engine 31 and Chief 3 found a two vehicle collision with a Jeep Wrangler on its roof in the number 3 lane and a Toyota pickup on the shoulder. Both drivers (only occupants of the vehicles) had self extricated prior to the arrival of the fire department. After assessment, the driver of the Toyota was transported to Howard County General Hospital priority 2 by Paramedic 35, and initially the Jeep driver refused treatment or transport. After units cleared, he had a change of heart and Engine 31 and Paramedic 135 responded back to the scene, after which he was also transported to Howard County General Hospital. Chief 3 held the I-70 command, and units cleared at 20:52. The scene was turned over to Howard County Police and Maryland State Police along with the Maryland State Highway Administration Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (CHART).
