Units responded today to Waverly Gardens, a senior living apartment building, for a possible fire. At 11:49, Tower 3 and Engine 82 were alerted to respond to 10801 Enfield Drive in the 8-15 box for the general fire alarm and two first floor smoke alarm activations. While responding, the call was upgraded to a full box assignment after a caller stated she saw smoke and fire coming from one of the apartments. Engine 82 arrived to find smoke on the first floor and began investigating. Engine 31, second arriving engine, took the hydrant out front and Tower 3 was the first arriving aerial. Crews reported inside and located food on the stove in a first floor apartment and heavy smoke throughout the entire building. Crews assisted with evacuating residents from the building and with smoke removal. One resident was transported to Howard County General Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Units cleared at 13:41.
