On November 29, 2014, William Edwin Saunders of Windsor Mill, beloved husband of the late Barbara
Saunders, devoted father of Joseph E. Saunders, loving brother of Frank and Carl Saunders, and the late David Saunders, devoted companion of Janet Mentzer and her daughter Mary Carole Stiffler, her son Craig Bowen, and her grandchildren Heather and Patrick Anske and Megan Bowen; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Chief Saunders joined the WFVFD in 1957 and over many years served as a Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, Assistant Chief, Captain, 1st Lieutenant, 2nd Lieutenant, Technician, and on the Board of Directors. He served as Fire Chief from 1981-1982 and as President from 1987-1993. He also retired as a Fire Specialist with the Baltimore County Fire Department after 39 years of service.

The family will receive friends at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to the Metropolitan Firefighters Burn Center Fund in Baltimore.
