Station 3 responded this morning for a serious motor vehicle collision on Route 32. At 06:24 the tones sounded for a crash involving a tractor trailer on Route 32 near the Maryland State Highway Administration Dayton Shop. Arriving units found a tractor trailer on its side and an overturned pickup truck with one occupant trapped inside. The tractor trailer was southbound on Rt. 32 when it partially left the roadway causing it to jackknife, after which it overturned on its side and slid into the northbound lane of Rt. 32 where it struck a Ford F-150 pickup that was northbound.
Engine 31 and Tower 3 were assigned to the rescue group where they worked to extricate the driver of the pickup. After a lengthy extrication the driver was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore priority 1 by Paramedic 35. The driver of the tractor trailer denied injury and refused transport. Route 32 remained closed until approximately 15:15 while Howard County Police Traffic Enforcement Section investigated the collision and the vehicles were towed.
