Today we held our annual Open House which coincides every year with NFPA's Fire Prevention Week. Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the 1871 Great Chicago Fire conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month.
Visitors to the station were able to see the equipment and take tours, have some refreshments, watch fire and EMS demonstrations, and enjoy the beautiful weather while hopefully learning about fire prevention. We are glad so many people were able to stop by and thanks to Dave Robbins from the Maryland DNR Forest Service Firewise Program for being there with Smokey Bear!
