West Friendship firefighters responded early this morning to assist with a fire in Carroll County. At 01:19 Engine 31 was alerted to the 800 block of Caren Drive in Company 12's first due for the report of a working house fire. Upon arrival units from the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department found a two story single family home with fire showing from the roof and Charlie side. Units commenced an aggressive interior attack before evacuating the structure and transitioning to an exterior attack. The fire was under control in about 40 minutes. According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal the fire was caused by the improper disposal of hot coals and caused $500,000 worth of damage.
Engine 31 worked on scene until 03:11.
