Units from Station 3 and surrounding companies responded early this morning for a serious motor vehicle crash in West Friendship. At 05:33 the tones sounded for a rescue with unknown injuries at Route 32 and I-70. While units were responding the call was upgraded to a rescue with entrapment. Upon arrival Paramedic 36 found that a Toyota pickup truck that had been traveling south on Route 32 collided with a tractor trailer that was making the left turn from northbound Route 32 onto westbound I-70. The pickup was wedged underneath the trailer with the driver trapped inside.
Crews from Engine 31 and 43 began vehicle stabilization and extrication of the patient. Upon arrival of Carroll County Rescue Squad 12 the pickup was able to be winched out from underneath the trailer allowing better access to the patient who was then transferred to Paramedic 36 and transported Priority 3 to Howard County General with minor injuries.
Units cleared at 06:19.
