At 07:49 this morning, units from West Friendship and Ellicott City were dispatched to I-70 and Route 40 for the motor vehicle crash. Callers to 911 advised that a truck had overturned with the driver possibly still inside. Units arrived on scene at westbound I-70 at Route 40 to find a box truck that left the roadway, overturned, and struck several trees. The driver was trapped and determined to be Priority 4. Crews from Engine 32 pulled an attack line to provide protection to crews on the scene while crews from Paramedics 35 and 86 searched the area to determine if there were any more occupants of the truck. Because of the large amount of diesel fuel in the truck's tanks, Special Operations (Tower 10 and ESV 10) and the Maryland Department of the Environment's Emergency Response Division were requested to respond to offload and contain the fuel. Once Maryland State Police completed their investigation, Truck 18 handled removal of the driver from the truck. Chief 3A held the command and units cleared at 12:06.
