Units from West Friendship were alerted this evening for a motor vehicle accident that left one injured. At 17:33, calls began coming into the Howard County Communications center for a truck that struck an electric pole at Old Frederick Road and Sand Hill Road. Units responded and found a Dodge Ram pickup with the driver still inside that had left the roadway and struck the front porch of a house as well as an electric pole. The pole and high tension electric wires were down in the roadway, completely blocking the intersection. Units from Engine 32 and Paramedic 35 quickly assessed the patient and determined that he would require transport by air to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. MSP Trooper 3 responded and the patient was transported Priority 2. Chief 3 held the command, and Old Frederick Road remained shut down between Woodford Drive and Henryton Road until 08:10 Wednesday morning so BGE and Verizon could repair the damage.
